This Christmas my mom gifted me a six-month subscription for Seamwork Magazine by Colette Patterns. If you’re not familiar with this new publication it’s a new digital sewing magazine that is free to read, but if you pay for a $6 subscription each month you get two PDF patterns that accompany the issue. I’ve only made one other (non-blogged) pattern from the issues so far, but when the May issue came out last week I printed out the Adelaide dress right away.

The patterns that accompany the digital magazine are meant to be quick and easy. Adelaide is no exception! It’s a simple sleeveless shirt dress with set-in snaps. Check out my first version!

I sewed up a straight size 12 in a fabric from Joann’s that I meant to make a skirt with. I’m really glad it worked for this dress, though!  I made two changes: I left the largest size of the pattern on for the length because I really don’t like things to be too short, and I left off the belt loops.

There are a couple of gaps in the neckline, but it’s nothing that takes away from the dress for me. The hardest part about this make? The set-in snaps! They were a lot more difficult than I expected. I also painted them with nailpolish to match the colorway of the fabric, and I should have waited a little longer to install them. That’s why there aren’t any photos of them up close. 😉

Overall, this was a quick and very satisfying make. I plan to make a couple more for summer, as it is the perfect silhouette!  I might add buttons next time instead of snaps…who knows! Either way I’ll definitely be renewing my premium subscription since May was my last gifted month.

Do you read Seamwork? Have you made an Adelaide or any of the other patterns they offer?
