A quick glance at the list of designers I’ve tested for over the past year and a half and you’ll notice that Love Notions comes up quite a bit. I fell in love with Tami’s patterns when I sewed up my first Sybil Illusions pencil skirt (unblogged–hopefully one day I’ll get a big post of all of the ones I’ve sewn since my first). I joined the Love Notions pattern support group on Facebook and applied for my first testing call what seems like ages ago. Today I’m sharing my latest test: the Forte!
This is V1 of testing view C with bell sleeves in a rayon spandex blend from Girl Charlee. I sewed a straight size large and left everything unhemmed because I liked the length of everything as is on this version. To keep my ends looking sharp, I made sure to leave a long thread tail at the end of each seam. My final step included sewing those ends into each serged seam with a tapestry needle.
I was honestly a little unsure of bell sleeves, on me at least, but I have to say I’m kind of in love with them. The 70s are back you guys…I’m digging it! Really though, this sleeve shape is so flattering, and I can’t wait to make more. I’m thinking of a sweatshirt version for fall (which is TOMORROW by the way–how?!).
As always this pattern was meticulously drafted and tested. The group of ladies testing churned out some really great tops–and dresses–and there is tons of inspiration happening in the pattern support group right now. Since this was V1, the shape of the bodice isn’t as flowy as my version. I still love it and know I’ll love the final version as well!
What do you think of the 70s trends that have been creeping back into the sewing community? Will you try the Forte Top (or a Dress version!?)?
