It’s that time of year where we’re thinking about getting a fresh start on our habits, new wardrobes, and trying new things. Enter the Fresh Start Blog Tour with DG Patterns! I hadn’t heard of DG Patterns before joining this tour, but I am so glad I now know about Daniela’s excellent pattern drafting skills.
I chose to sew up the Lily Cardigan for the tour. You know I love a good cardigan, and this one has a hood, two length options, two sleeve options AND option pockets making it a GREAT cardigan! It’s a wonderful addition to my wardrobe. I made mine in this black Rayon Spandex Jersey from Fabric.com that’s a little on the thin side, but it will be perfect to transition into spring (which I’m already thinking about!).
My husband said I look like a Jedi with my new long-length hooded cardigan…I don’t disagree. I’ve never been a fan of dusters in the past, but I they’re coming back and they’ve grown on me! That’s what made me go with the longer length option for this version of the pattern. Daniela drafts for those who are 5’9″ tall, and I’m about 5′ 7″. I ended up just keeping most of the length anyway to get the look I wanted.
My measurements put me in a size 16 for this pattern, but I ended up sizing down to a 14 to get the fit of an open cardigan rather than a button-up. I took my photos in 18 degree weather, so unfortunately the photo above doesn’t show off the amazing curved hem on this pattern because I was too busy worrying about the windchill. However, you can check out the listing photo to see what it looks like!
Overall, this will make a great addition to my wardrobe. I wore it to work today and got so many compliments! I’m already envisioning it paired with a floral skirt and tights.
I’m excited to sew another one of these up in a thicker ponte or scuba for a fun floral spring coatigan. I’m also already scouting out my next DG Patterns make…she has so many that have the potential for a wedding guest dress I’m planning out for this summer. Decisions, decisions.
Have you heard of DG Patterns before? What would you make that you haven’t tried yet? Let me know–I’d love some help deciding what to make next!
