Happy February 14th and welcome to my stop on the Red, White and Pink Tour hosted by Sewing by Ti! Fun fact: today is my birthday. Have I mentioned I’m a Valentine’s Day baby on the blog before? Well, if you didn’t know, now you know!

To celebrate my 29th year and 5th year of sewing (in a row, at least), I finally made a Halifax Hoodie (pattern by Hey June Handmade). This pattern has been on my to-buy list for awhile, but for some reason I kept making excuses as to why I didn’t need it. I broke down last week and I am so glad I did!

I made my Halifax in view E out of a creamy french terry that I purchased online from Fabric Mart Fabrics in the fall. To tie in this month’s theme a little more (I love this hoodie hard, but let’s be honest it’s kind of vanilla 😉 ) I got a little wild with some red lipstick and silly with a heart prop. My great-aunt made this fun yarn heart ages ago. It’s actually a magnet, and I think it might even be older than me!

I absolutely love, love, love this sweater. This french terry is so drapey and so very comfortable. I sized up to an XL/1X graded at the hips, and it’s the perfect mix of cozy for me. Not to big, not too small–just right!

This view has two features that I love. One is very subtle in my version since it’s a solid, light color: the side seams. There are gorgeous diagonal lines that make this view a truly unique option. The second feature of this view? The cowl neck with drawstrings! To make my Halifax feel even more luxe, I decided to use grommets for my drawstring openings.

This was my first time using grommets. My execution wasn’t perfect, but I still love how they turned out! Speaking of turning out–I sewed my drawstrings right sides together to show the loopy backside when I turned out my strings. I love the contrast of texture!

I can’t wait to wear my Halifax this weekend on what I call a V-Day B-Day date with my hubby! I also can’t wait to make another one of these sweaters in this view, and may one (or two or three) more views. I love a pattern with OPTIONS!

Have you hopped on the Halifax train yet? I would love to see! Also, what do you think of this new background (that isn’t a fence! *tears*)? We finally got some baseboards up in our mudroom, and this wall is right in front of a big window that lets in great light. I’m thinking more project photos will be taken here.

Don’t forget to check out the other lovely ladies on this tour to give you some great February sewing inspiration!

  1. This is so beautiful!! I just made two pairs of pants with baby french terry fabric but I’ve been wanting to make a top. Your project is so inspiring!! I’m

    1. Thank you! This fabric was almost a pair of Hudsons…I need to get some baby french terry for those now! Where do you find yours?

    1. Yes!! The patterns are so, so good! I am a huge fan of the Union St. Tee–it just got an update so I will be sewing it up this week and I can’t wait. Adrianna explains things so well–I’ve been able to tackle so many new skills thanks to her patterns.
