Red, White, and Blue SEWING | Sew Americana Blog Tour

I am super pumped to be a part of Wild and Wanderful’s Sew Americana Tour! The Fourth of July is always one of my favorite parts of summer. Celebrating our freedom with family and friends, grilling, fireworks…what more can you ask for? How about a quick(ish) sew to get you in the mood to PARTY? Or just hang out and snuggle your baby, like me. Whatever you’re into.

My first red, white, and blue sew was a Lane Raglan by Hey June Handmade. The Lane Raglan is a favorite of mine, and usually I make it sans-pocket. I decided to hack a Fourth of July Hemlock I made two years ago to more some holiday appropriate spirit to the basic baseball silhouette. I also utilized some red and blue serger thread that I added to my loopers to make the innards of this All-American tee more fun. The bottom hem is also just roll hemmed to save some time, but it still coordinates with the colors!

In addition to the pocket on my raglan, I was able to reuse the stars and stripes fabric from my original shirt to make an adorable drool bib for the babe! My mom bought Grayson not one, not two, but THREE Fourth of July outfits this year, and they are all so. stinking. cute. BUT I realized he didn’t have any bibs to that coordinated to keep him looking extra put together. Because babies need to look put together, right?

This tutorial and pattern was used to make his reversible, Star-Spangled bib. It was quick, easy, and I love that you don’t have to put any snaps or velcro on it because you just utilize your button foot and pull the ends through. Since I used a knit fabric, I should have interfaced where the button hole was going. I didn’t, and it doesn’t look super pretty. The bib is still functional, and I can’t wait to coordinate it with his long-weekend outfits.

This tour and the Sew 20 tour have been a great way for me to ease back into sewing and blogging. Thank you to Katy so much for including me! I’ll be back soon with a couple of other projects, like my postponed Minerva kits.

Happy Fourth of July and stay safe!
